Mentorship Program-Volunteering Opportunity

An Akanksha mentor is an individual working within one of Akanksha’s mentor companies who becomes a guide to an Akanksha child. In this mentor program we seek to pair Akanksha child (class 9 and above) with a corporate mentor. The mentor-mentee pair meets once a week for about 2 hrs at the mentor’s corporate office to work on matching a child's aspirations with his or her skills and family reality. Mentors open the world of careers to their mentees and guide them through the difficult adolescent phase. Mentees, in turn, offer mentors a meaningful insight into a different world, friendship and respect, and the ability to bring about positive change through service.

The mentees stay in this program for 2 years, so we try as far as possible to have consistent mentors for them. Therefore, to volunteer for this program we require a commitment of at least 1 year. Only then can the objectives set could be met with.

Individuals can also join this program as a part of the existing weekend groups. Or, an individual who is a part of a corporate can start a new corporate mentor group if they can gather around 8-10 volunteers from the organization willing to mentor for a year.

Interested volunteers can contact Connie Fernandes at connie.fernandes@akanksha.org
