Sponsor a Centre

Through our "Sponsor a Centre" scheme, Akanksha partners with individuals and corporations who not only donate towards the annual centre expense but also get involved in various activities such as volunteering and raising awareness of Akanksha.

The sponsorship covers the teacher and social worker salaries, stationery and materials and outing and uniform expenses together with a with a fixed proportion of expenses towards overall management of the project and repairs and maintenance This amounts to INR 3.5 lakhs (approx USD 8000) for academic year 2009-10.

The Akanksha Schools are founded with a mission to ensure that all children are equipped with the education, skills and character they need to lead empowered lives. The schools seek to incorporate the many years of learning and experience gained from the Akanksha centers to be able to increase the impact on each child by taking ownership of each child's entire education. Run in partnership with the local municipalities, the BMC and PMC, and a strong corporate advocate/sponsor (such as the Thermax Social Initiatives Foundation in Pune and TechMahindra in Mumbai), Akanksha seeks to create a small network of high-performing municipal schools that redefine what is possible for children from low-income communities and can serve as a model for systemic reform across India.

We are currently looking for sponsors for a new school to be opened in June 2009, Pune. The budget for the school is INR 25 lakhs (approx. USD 56000) for academic year 2009-10.

The Akanksha programs are designed for specific age groups of our students, to meet their needs and aspirations and provide oppurtunities to harness their talents. Funding required for these programs is listed below.
