Ensuring our students transition smoothly from school to college is one of the primary objectives of the Alumni Support and Engagement (ASE) team. Many of our alumni who just entered college echoed the need for additional academic support. Hence, in order to cope up with the academic pressure and help our students to perform well in college, we started the Academic study groups.

 The Academic study groups are in the pilot phase and are only operational in Mumbai. These student groups are run in collaboration with the school teams. 

 These groups not only served as a way for students to come together to study, but also helped them solve their doubts and enhance their knowledge through peer learning.

 The first step into setting up an Academic support group is identifying the subjects our students need assistance with. After this, the ASE team opens up volunteering opportunities to individuals who are studying or working in the same field and are committed to supporting our alumni.

Amaan, who works in the Impact Team at Akanksha actively volunteers for the support groups. “My interactions with students who have grown out of Akanksha’s learning spaces gave me a better understanding of how they have been impacted. I found them committed to performing well in the exams without getting jittery with stress. Their earnest regularity with classes and routine tests gave me the zeal to make time for teaching out of daily work.”

These support groups have led to an increase in confidence of our students and have gradually resulted in positive outcomes.  Amaan, who is currently working with the Impact team at Akanksha also volunteers to teach math to our alumni.

“The Academic Support groups have been quite helpful. We engage in thought-provoking discussions and debates in these groups. This helps us understand the subjects better. I struggled with Economics earlier but now because of the support groups I am able to revise the subject multiple times.” says Nemat, our alumna who is a part of the Academic Support group.
