Riding On the Path to Education With Ram

Ram, a biking enthusiast, and a technologist, based out of Mumbai connected with Akanksha to promote the cause of education as part of his ‘Ride For Support’ programme. With his Royal Enfield’s panniers (luggage carriers) painted to feature Akanksha’s logo and our  Mask Up drive title, “Education Saves Lives Too’, the engineer by profession aims to spread awareness by sporting the Akanksha merchandise and spreading the word on his road trip covering close to 4000 kms. Ram is embarking on this journey to South India on 7th of December.

Ram’s ‘Ride For Support’ programme was born in 2016 out of his desire to support the cause of underprivileged communities. Activities range from teaching kids and providing learning material to providing ration, clothes, footwear and solar lamps to families in need. With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the programme expanded to include the distribution of home-stitched face masks and food essentials to the frontline warriors such as the traffic police.

In addition to this, Ram Mohan has also founded a crowdfunded  social initiative, ‘The Pavement School’, a learning centre dedicated to the education and empowerment of young children from low-income families in Lonavala. Much like Akanksha, the founding philosophy of his initiative is to provide a good quality education to each and every child to make them independent and self-sufficient. Going beyond regular classroom education, the initiative focuses on skill-development and provides a platform for children to express themselves. A fun activity includes the ‘Aapka Book Mera Cover’ drive where students visit neighbouring homes, collect school books and cover them for a nominal fee.

Learn more about this social ambassador’s journey on his Youtube channel, ‘The Monk Who Rides’. With gratitude and love, Team Akanksha wish Ram a happy and safe journey!
